Playa Blanca – Lanzarote´s Fastest Growing Destination

In recent years, Playa Blanca has become the second most popular choice for visitors to the island of Lanzarote. As the newest resort on the Canarian island, it has a winning combination of good quality hotels and new villas for tourists to choose from.

The majority of the hotels in Playa Blanca are four and five star, with a wide range of facilities for their guests to use, including great entertainment and activities for children. Whilst adults are given the chance to pamper themselves in one of the numerous spa centres that are provided.

Holidaymakers who prefer a more private and personal space to relax in won’t be disappointed as the choice of Playa Blanca villas is also extensive. This is a result of the expansion that has seen the resort grow from a small fishing village to be the second largest tourist destination on Lanzarote.

The town is well located to serve as a base for visitors, as it not only has some of the best weather on the island, but also lies just next to some of the most beautiful beaches to be found in the whole archipelago. The Papagayo beaches are still extremely unspoilt and boast six coves of white sand and turquoise water.

Just across from Playa Blanca lies the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura. The short ferry journey across the Bocaina Straits makes Corralejo, the town at the northern most tip, an obvious choice for a day trip. Whilst outside Corralejo is the Dunas National Park,  a huge stretch of dazzling sand dunes, ideal for a day at the beach.

Back on Lanzarote there are some equally compelling attractions that deserve a visit. Such as the Timanfaya National Park, the site of the six year long volcanic eruptions that changed much of the island’s geography. Visitors are given demonstrations of the incredible power still lying dormant beneath the earth’s crust.

Further into the interior of the island are Lanzarote’s wine fields and bodegas. Often the best way to visit these is either by taking a tour or hiring a car. Lanzarote car hire is not as costly as in other destinations, so for those who like to come and go as they please, this is the best option.

Victorian visitors to the island were taken to see the volcanic region by camel. Modern day holidaymakers can experience this antiquated form of travel with a trip up the side one of the volcanoes on one of the camels still kept for this purpose.
